English Hasn't Performed Up To His Part

The third-year linebacker created a career-high two sacks Sunday when VS. Miami by relying on his athleticism.

This was a performance the Chargers liked to see that Larry English pointed his 6-foot-2, 255-pound Mitchell and Ness Jerseys frame into the Miami backfield and wrestled quarterback Matt Moore to the ground twice Sunday.

The head coach Norv Turner called English "outstanding" in the game and said it's gratifying to find English get rewarded after grinding through some foot issues last season and coming back to health. Fellow linebacker Takeo Spikes saw an athlete permitting his physical presents to take over.

"He really wasn't thinking, he was just reacting," Spikes said. "In his mind he hasn't performed up to his part, (so) to see him break out like that, it's gratifying."

English now has 3.5 sacks in his last 5 matches but admitted he loosened up after getting to Moore the first time Sunday.

"I was able just to cut it loose a little bit, run around and make some plays," English said. "It's like a snowball effect, you know what I mean?You can build off that and make more plays."

The Chargers will have a Week 6 bye this season.

Should the team take resting guys into consideration resting guys like Vincent Jackson and Quentin Jammer (hamstring) so they can have two weeks to recover?"You walk through the building and it's about now.
